As part of our commitment to capturing and sharing great Australian music stories, the Australian Music Vault asked some of the country’s most influential trailblazers and unsung heroes to open up about their lives in music.
Sally Howland worked with APRA AMCOS, Australia’s copyright licensing body, for over 30 years. She is currently Chair of Support Act, a charity delivering crisis relief services to artists, crew and music workers, and also Music Victoria, the state’s peak body for contemporary music.
In this interview, Sally discusses her experience with the barriers put in the way of women trying to break into the industry; the seismic changes experienced by Australian musicians as the industry moved from a pre-internet world through digital downloads to streaming; plus her work with music industry charity, Support Act.
Interviewer: Jane Gazzo
